Holy Shrines, Batman!

I was walking across St. Mark's Place this morning, when out of nowhere, I saw this shrine on the sidewalk:

When you see a shrine like this on the sidewalk, the first thing you have to wonder is, what's behind it?

It's a parking lot!

I walked around some more, then found myself heading back home across East 7th Street, when out of nowhere, I saw another shrine:

And another:

Another.

And yet another:

Yet another.

What's up with all these shrines? Are the shriners in town?!
